Well, I was in my Pure Maths class with this lecturer, Mr. Low, when he suddenly about this Life Philosophy that could be found in the Newton’s Law of Motion… He started by saying that Sir Isaac Newton is not just a scientist but also a philosopher… Its really facinating that I decided to blog about it… =)
Newton’s 1st Law of Motion:
Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that
state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
In other words, an object that is moving will continue moving with a constant velocity unless an external force act on it. Likewise, an object that is at rest, a.k.a not moving, will not move unless an external force act on it. However, according to Mr. Low, Newton’s 1st Law of Motion can also be interpreted from the philosophical point of view… He says that from the 1st Law, we know that an object will continue its motion until an external force acts on it… In our life, this applies to all of us… The ‘motion’ is our behaviour, or attitude, or actions, or whatever else, that will lead to an ‘effect’, either positive or negative… The effect is caused by our ‘motion’, i.e, if we do it this way, we’ll surely end up that way…that sort of thing… e.g : If we were to be lazy, we’ll surely end up with low grades on our test… and this ’cause-effect’ thingy will always continue, repeating its cycle, UNLESS an ‘external force’ is acted upon the ‘motion’… And what is this ‘external force’ that we’re talking about? The ‘external force’ could be from ourself, or from someone else… e.g : If we were to be lazy (the ‘motion’), we’ll get poor results (the ‘effect’)… but if somewhere…in between the ‘motion’ we suddenly realise that our lazyness causes poor results and try to change our behaviour, then the effect or result will also be changed… In this case, our own initiative or self-realisation of our bad behaviours or attitude is the ‘external force’ that acted upon our ‘motion’ and caused it to change… External force can also come from someone or somthing else… e.g : if we’re lazy, we get poor results, then we get scoldings from our parents… after getting scoldings, we decided to change our attitude to be more hardworking… In this case, our parent’s scolding is the ‘external force’ that acted upon our ‘motion’… =)
Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion:
The rate of change of momentum of a body is equal to the resultant force acting on the body and is in the same direction.
In other words, the infamous equation, F = ma , if the mass is constant. This too, has a philosophical interpretation. According to Mr. Low, the Force (F) refers to the ‘external force’ discussed earlier on top. The Mass (m) refers to our own self, and it’s a constant, as there are things about us that we just can’t change. Some examples are our age, birthplace, and so on. The Acceleration (a) refers to the ‘improvement’ that acts upon us. If the ‘force’ is good/positive, then it will result in positive ‘acceleration’ or ‘improvement’ on the ‘mass’ or ‘ourself’. However, if the ‘force’ is bad/negative, it will result in negative ‘acceleration’ or ‘improvement’ on the ‘mass’ or ‘ourself’. In other words, ‘deceleration’ or ‘deteriorate’. Therefore, it is important of us to choose to do the right thing (positive ‘force’ = ‘improvement’). For example, we shouldn’t smoke, take drugs and stuffs (negative ‘force’)… =)
Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion:
For every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action
Simply put, Action = Reaction. This also applies in our life…as interpreted from the philosophical point of view. Whatever we done(action), we’ll definitely get a return(reaction)… e.g : If we love our parents, our parents will love us too. If we do something unkind to others, then we will receive unkind treatment from others too… This is very much like ‘karma’ or even the ‘Principle of Equivalent Trade’ (P.O.E.T). In the P.O.E.T, everything that happens is ‘equivalent trade’, in other words, what you do is what you get… I don’t wish to eleborate more on the P.O.E.T, at least for this current post (hey, its about Newton’s Law…come on~~!) Check out my previous posts on the P.O.E.T if you wish… and drop any comments if you like… we can ‘discuss’ it… =)
Ok ok… guess thats all about the ‘Life Philosophy’ that could actually be found in Newton’s Law of Motion. Credits to Mr. Low for such a facinating interpretation. I welcome any comments or discussions that any of you readers might have in mind. =) Oops, i think i gotta stop here now, as its getting real late…and i gotta go sleep (its already 1.37 am on the clock at ‘typing’ time) Gotta wake up early tomorrow as I have my eye-checkup. =)
